As I prepare to represent Ireland at the 62nd Miss International Beauty Pageant this November, I am filled with excitement, pride, and a deep sense of purpose. This year’s pageant, held in Tokyo, Japan, is more than just a beauty contest. It's a platform that champions "Sustainability in Pageantry," and I feel honoured to be part of a movement that aligns so closely with my own values.
From October 29th, delegates from over 70 countries will gather in Japan to embark on a journey that is as much about cultural exchange and education as it is about competition. For two weeks, we will immerse ourselves in various activities across Japan, from Kaga City to Fukushima, Niigata, Atami, and Kamakura. It’s more than just pageant events; it’s an opportunity to learn, grow, and build connections with inspiring women from all over the world.
One of the things I admire most about Miss International is its emphasis on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As many of you know, sustainability is a core part of my personal mission, and I'm thrilled that this pageant is taking a stand, not just for environmental sustainability but for the long-term well-being of all its participants. The post-pandemic world has shown us the importance of self-reliance, transparency, and mental health—and the Miss International team is making sure we feel supported throughout this journey.
Among the many highlights, I’m particularly excited about the National Costume Show on November 3rd. This is where I get to showcase the beauty and heritage of Ireland through a costume that celebrates our culture. I am working closely with a talented designer on my national costume, and I can’t wait to share it with all of you!
There’s also the Preliminary Evaluation on November 10th, where delegates will be evaluated on several key areas, and of course, the final night on November 12th, which will include the much-anticipated evening gown parade, the return of the onstage swimsuit competition, and the final question and answer round.
What makes this year even more special is the focus on mental health. As we live in a world that’s increasingly dictated by social media, Miss International has made a commitment to ensuring that all participants feel safe and secure, without the pressures of constant online validation. This resonates with me deeply. Throughout my journey, I’ve learned the importance of self-care and staying grounded in my values. Miss International offers us an environment that promotes sisterhood and cultural understanding, fostering a renewed spirit regardless of the results.
As I embark on this incredible journey, I’m filled with gratitude for the love and support I’ve received from all of you. Miss International represents everything I believe in—celebrating diversity, promoting sustainability, and building genuine connections. I can’t wait to share every step of this adventure with you and continue using this platform to raise awareness for the causes close to my heart, including the empowerment of children through education and the creation of a more sustainable future.
Thank you for being a part of this journey with me. I’ll keep you updated on every exciting moment!
With love and gratitude,
Hannah Kathleen Hawkshaw Your Miss International Ireland 2024
