01: Weekly Wins
Happy Saturday, grab a cup of coffee and we can recap how our final week of January went, together!
I said in my last post, that there were three main things I hoped to focus on:
Enjoy going to the gym
Get more sleep
Be consistent with my morning routine
Now, none of these are time sensitive goals, they are just habits that I hope to consistently incorporate into my lifestyle. This week I managed to stay on top of points 1 and 3, but getting more sleep is something that I do need to improve on!
Attending the gym has become more of a non-negotiable than it was before. It's funny because I seem to have a love/hate relationship with it, despite the fact that every single time I go I feel on top of the world afterwards. I don't think I have ever heard anyone say "Exercise really makes my mind and body feel like crap" - it is without a doubt a mood booster. I love the benefits the gym has had for my mind and my body!
One of the things that's helped me feel better towards going to the gym is maximising my time while there. In the past two weeks, I have either made a business or personal call with family while working out, or listened to a beneficial podcasts. I particularly enjoyed an episode of Real AF with Andy Frisella about 'The Power of Indifference'.
I really plan to maintain this consistency with it. If you are trying to get a better workout routine, this is your sign! Book a class or plan a workout right NOW. Add it into your calendar and see how amazing you will feel after it. It is a form of self care - one that is super healthy for us in every way - so don't let it go a miss. :)
Sometimes I really struggle to make sure I don't have work tasks that need to be done at night. Often, this can be unavoidable due to timezone differences between clients and my team, but other than that, I have no excuse for letting work eat into the hours I should be sleeping.
Sleep deprivation is the most common brain impairment.
My awareness towards sleep and making time for it has really improved, but lately, I have had a couple of unexpected projects crop up so my workload has been quite heavy. As a result, I have found it difficult to 'switch-off'. For example, last night (Friday) I was by my laptop until around 11pm finalising some emails and correspondence around a particular project, and today, I was working from about 10-4pm.
I know a lot of people (including myself in the past) say, "I'll sleep when I'm dead", but you won't function as a living human being for very long if you're not allowing your mind and body the reparation time it requires to ensure you are properly functioning.
How many hours of sleep do you normally get? I'm usually very happy if I get 5 hours (which has unfortunately not been as often as I would like), but I think the ideal minimum for me is 7 hours. Maybe I need some more beauty sleep? Oh well... ;)
The morning routine element of my week was quite successful. I am so, so proud of myself for ingraining this into my daily routine. I crave it when I open my eyes in the morning!
I did miss it one day this week, and I noticed how behind I felt with my day. The whole day felt as thought I had started driving without putting my seatbelt on. Just. Not. Right. So, I am going to remember that feeling before I decide to skip it again. I want to make the most of every day that I am gifted on this beautiful planet, and if a morning routine helps me do that then I should never miss it again.
If you don't have a morning routine, I highly suggest you create one. It doesn't have to be over the top or involve the likes of an intense 3 hour meditation. To wake up and start the day with something that you enjoy heals your mind and makes you feel ready to conquer the world! It is truly remarkable. I am certain over time it will have immense impact on my own personal growth & development.
